Ivor Lewis oesophagectomy for cancer of the oesophagus. The operation is done by laparoscopy and thoracoscopy. The stomach is made into a tube and is anastomosed to the oesophagus in the chest.

Your stomach is made into a tube and joined to the cut end of your oesophagus in your chest. This is called two-stage oesophagectomy or the Ivor Lewis operation.
